Rumba


Rumba — is a dance for couples, who has African roots. The special features of this dance should include smooth and sensual movements of the body, coupled with long strides. The most popular melody for the rumba is known all over the world «Guantanamera», the author of which is joseite Fernandez. This tune is still considered a classic of the genre rumbovogo.


There are several varieties of rumba: ballroom, African, Cuban and Gypsy rumba. All of these species have the same roots, but are completely different both in music and in the movements.

Rumba History

This dance appeared in Cuba in the nineteenth century, in conjunction with the European Contradance. Name of the dance is, apparently, from the name of dance groups in the early 19th century-«rumbosoorquestra», but with the Spanish "rumba" is translated as the path.

Types rumba

rumba and cha-cha-cha

In the early history of this dance, rumba differed little from the cha-cha-cha, so the music was practically the same, and all fell under the category of rumba. But in the latter dances were clearly delineated, rumba was much slower, has acquired a minor character. A cha-cha-cha, on the contrary, speed up, it became more major mood.

Therefore, the old rumba, in our modern sense, it should be treated as a cha-cha-cha, and sometimes they can not even be classified as either one or the other dance, so they are original.
